Direct drive system

I have a somewhat limited knowledge in airboats, but I'm no noob when it comes to mechanics. I'm thinking about a direct drive system on my Diamondback, but I'm not sure if it's something that I can pull off. Anyone have done this before to give me some tips? I'd also like to know what are the obstacles I should be facing throughout this process

It's definitely doable, but not without challenges and I dont even want to start saying it all but know that things like weight balance, proper prop selection, and getting enough thrust without reduction can be tricky, If you're mechanically inclined, bonus points for you

Interesting idea!!
A direct drive on a Diamondback isn't common, but I'd say it's not entirely out of the question for someone with solid mechanical skills!
The biggest hurdle you're going to face is likely prop clearance and thrust angle.
Diamondbacks are designed for reduction units, so fitting a prop directly to the engine's crankshaft usually means a much smaller prop diameter than ideal.
Or you might need to make significant modifications to the hull and cage for clearance.
You'd also need to ensure that the engine you have is rated for direct prop loading!!
Vibrational harmonics could also become a significant factor without the dampening of a belt or gear reduction.
I'd highly recommend looking at how other direct-drive airboats are configured.
Pay close attention to their engine mounting and prop shaft alignment to give you a solid reference for your Diamondback!!

Any updates on your direct drive idea? @FanBoatFan laid out the main hurdles really well. What engine are you planning to use as this will determine everything from your usable RPM to whether it can even handle the propeller thrust.

Going direct drive sounds simple until you realize it limits torque, tuning, and prop choice. Most who switch end up chasing cooling issues and regret ditching reduction. It's not always the upgrade folks think
